H A L O was the winning project unanimously chosen among the proposals submitted for the competition "CONCURSO DE PROXECTOS PARA LA CONECIÓN PEONIL ENTRE AS RÚAS SERAFÍN AVEDAÑO E VÍA NORTE DE VIGO" (CONTEST OF PROJECTS FOR THE PEONIL CONNECTION BETWEEN AS RÚAS SERAFÍN AVEDAÑO AND VÍA NORTE DE VIGO).

More than an elevator, a praise to the horizon, this is the “Halo” proposal.

Human beings have always been fascinated by observing the horizon.
The horizon as a line of uncertainty where everything can happen, end and beginning of something at the same time.
An unattainable mystery for many centuries, and an object of conquest for many others.

“Halo” is an answer to the right questions, an icon and a sculpture. More important than an answer, it is a right question, and the questions were clear: can we intervene without blinding the views of the central atrium of the new intermodal station, can we in the same piece generate senses of circulation that protect us in this time of pandemic?

Is it necessary to create an elevated walkway as an extension of the public square, like belvedere, without disturbing the vision of the users of the same, is it necessary that the people who live near the walkway lose part of their privacy, is it sensible to duplicate vertical displacements when the intermodal station has already solved them, is it a layout for all the people of Vigo, or only for the users of the shopping center or the intermodal station? Is it a route for all Vigueans, or only for the users of the shopping center or the intermodal station, and last but not least, can all these issues be resolved with a single gesture, a greeting to the visitor who passes under it, and with zero energy consumption? Having asked the relevant questions, the answer is simply unavoidable, yes.
